Hey guys, I am still a Crappie rookie but put the time in this year. All I have is time right now LOl! Starting about mid April I went down to the dock most evenings as my place is in a back bay about 2- 6 ft depth range. I would spend some time casting a split bobber and tube jig just seeing if anything was about and for the first couple of weeks absolutely not a nibble. Then last weekend Saturday and Sunday evening the Crappie were there. I caught about a dozen 11 inch crappie and missed another dozen over the 2 evenings. Since then they disappeared without a nibble again.
So is that it for now or are they still there and just turned off?

I would think no, only because not all fish of each species will spawn at the same time. In most cases, they will come in waves. It may be days to a few weeks between waves, but keep at 'em!

In April and May the best time to catch crappie is 7am to 5pm. You are already lucky that you live in a good spot. You have caught crappie already so you know the potential is there for success. I fish a small bay every spring and have my best success during the day for about two weeks. BUT it is never the same as spring moves on. Try maybe just before sunrise, try all times you live there. You have the perfect place to experiment. Crappie is my favorite fish to catch. Read my posts, I would be happy to come over and show you how I fish and figure the crappie out. I won't even keep any fish. Good luck today and tomorrow etc. Oh ya I do fish for crappie at night in the spring but only two spots I fish that are deeper and hold the fish at night. Spring time shallow water the bite starts early and through the day.

I would say it's not over by any means.Crappies school up and move around frequently.Weather plays a big part as where they will be at any given time.Sudden cold spells could have chased them into deeper water. However I believe they will return as the water warms.Or maybe they are still there but have just stopped biting,For Now.As suggested keep at it they aren't very far.My bite had been off for a few days, then bang,I got a few today.

First of all don’t tell or show anyone your secret spot because you know there crappie right?
WOW. I was just offering some assistance. I am sure he is an adult and can make his own decisions on what to do with my advice. I have over 50 years of spots to fish, I do not need another. Again...I was just trying to be nice and help. I have taught many people to fish or shown people how to enjoy fishing more I even take people to my SECRET SPOTS because I know there is fish there. It makes it so much easier to coach someone when you can catch fish as you are instructing. Ask anyone I give away SECRETS all the time.......but that is just me.

Nice fish DB.....My shoulder feels good enough to get back to fishing in a few more days. Maybe I will have some of your luck. Stay safe and catch some more.

It really depends. You coulda burned the spot for the time being but crappie always spawn in waves (males come first) so with any luck you'll probably find some more soon, and they will likely stick around for a tad longer too.
Otherwise, it's safe to say they are in the area so try and find some other structure, chances are you'll find some more of em nearby if the depth is similar.
