Does anyone know if there are any Black Crappie in the West Arm of Lake Nipissing?

Not that i know of. Been fishing the arm since ‘13. Caught my fair share of rock bass tho. Checked an old Ontario guide to eating sport fish , black crappie is not listed for Nipissing. Have you caught any elsewhere on Nip?

This past week I fished the West Arm of Nip near St. Charles and we caught 2 Black Crappie in 2 different locations miles apart.

I have had a camp there since 2003 and have never seen one before either.

Good or bad I would imagine it will only be a couple of years and we will have a good population.

This guy was pretty tasty.

As far as I know, they've been in the lake for a while, but aren't very competitive.

Maybe someone can correct me.

Go buy yourself a lottery ticket!

I have heard of them being caught in nets (several years ago, at least), but never by anyone angling in Nip. Ever. You got 2

I've heard of salmon, splake, still waiting for a laker. Never a crappie.. until now.

I've also had a camp on the west arm for 20 years. Have never once seen a crappie. Until this past winter we caught approx 50-60, and this spring we have caught about 8 so far.

Anyone else with insight on this?

I was actually planning on targeting them this spring but I have been too busy. I did observe a few people fishing in the weeds with a bobber so I was wondering if they were targeting Crappies.

I've fished the West Arm my whole life. Netted a juvie opening weekend catching shiners for bait. First I've ever seen. I actually double checked when I got home, thinking maybe it was a small white/silver bass. Nope.. definitely crappie.

Barely fished it yet this year.
