Now I'm really p###ed off at the Government!

I always buy Ethanol free gas for my snowmobile and my boat winter storage.
Because both of my toys are old and using the old fashion carburetor system and I had problems with Ethanol ......dissolved things......and those things plugged up the jets inside the carburetors. It took me a lot of work taken all carbs apart ......cleaning.....etc...
Ever since I switched to E0 gas ( like Shell V-Power).....no problems at all.

In our Town Canadian Tire was selling their premium gas Ethanol free........till yesterday I noticed a sign..........CONTAINS 10% ETHANOL.......So I drove over to Shell gas station ( because their V-Power was ALWAYS Ethanol free.) But the price is higher that CTC gas ....I payed $1.82 / liter. Purchased 50 Liters in my spare Jerry cans...... so will be good for the winter running with my snowmobile. Knowing I got Ethanol free gas!

Today I just read somewhere about an article that gas stations can not sell Ethanol free gas ......So I just called the clerk at the Shell gas station I purchased the expensive gas yesterday about their Premium V-Power gas .......if it contains Ethanol. The answer ; YES!!!

He said Government regulations .......every gas in Ontario has Ethanol up to 10%!!!

well if I knew that I could have bought the regular gas with 10% Ethanol for $ 1.48 /Liter.......instead paying the premium with 10% Ethanol price $ 1.82 /Liter

I do not need high octane premium.........but I was willing to pay the higher price because of no Ethanol in gas!!

Now it looks like we have NO CHOICE.......all gas stations will have to have certain percentige of Ethanol in their gas!!

Anybody knows .........how can you treat Ethanol ( E10) gas ........???? But I'm not sure if you can treat them at all .........But what the Hell is wrong with the Government.......taking away pure gas ( E0) not available any more?

well that sucks! I do the same as you - everything but my vehicles gets no ethanol premium gas. Not for higher octane, but simply for the lack of ethanol. Never use any type of seafoam or stabilizer, and everything always starts, season after season. Guess I'm soon to find out if I've been wasting my money or if all my small engines are gonna be a pain in my a$$.

I do the same, have a jerry can of shell and put startron in as well. My 48-year-old car has always need hightest, as it needed the octane. Then unleaded gas came along, and I added a lead additive, until I couldn't get that anymore. Then just drove it till I blew the engine and rebuild with all the parts to run lead free. Now ethanol, wonder how that going to affect the old girl.

Zvonk .....do not take my word for it. Just Google it , and you will find out !! The Government is going after the " clean air" regulations and if you Google:....." Ethanol gas in Ontario".......you will find out articles dated back to this year April. telling us ........all the gasoline sold in Ontario by gas stations will have to contain ethanol. I did not know this till today. I purchased Canadian Tire premium gas a couple of months ago ..........it was containing NO ETHANOL.

Since than they did the change! And all the gas station going to do this........this is the new Law now!!!
I remember the leaded gas. My first car was running on that!
And came the unleaded gas.
Now the Ethanol BS!

Yeah, I was just reading that article too.
Hmmm.
Guess I’ll check for myself next time I’m at CTC gas bar

The only way to beat it is not store any grade of gas for long periods of time. Instead of filling tanks for winter storage, run them dry. It's not like cars or trucks sit for months, they are always moving and getting refilled and the gas gets sloshed around and doesn't have time to separate. Thank the eco freaks for this. I wonder if marina's will still carry no ethanol. I spoke to a local distributor a while back, he has no choice, but wasn't sure about marinas. Maybe have to check with them.

I agree it sucks but you can easily stabilize the ethanol gas. Every single tank of ethanol gas I run through my boat, chain saw, lawn mower, weed eater, leaf blower, generator etc I run stabilizer with the fuel. It works and it’s cheap insurance over repair jobs. I also run all my tanks dry for storage except my boat.

As Disco has said, if it bugs you, put a stabilizer in your fuel.

That said, I have run E10 in my lawn mower, trimmers, pressure washers, and snow blowers for decades without any stabilizer, and I don't even empty my gas over the winter. Guess what? Still work fine. They all are 89 octane 10% ethanol.

I run premium non-ethanol fuel with my boat and put stabilizer in it. I don't need to use non-ethanol, but I do because all the marine pumps have zero ethanol Also, there's a big difference between a $40,000 engine and a two-stroke trimmer My boat even says E10 is fine with a big sticker under the steering wheel. But no E15.

With any engine made past year 2000 or so, I think the whole non-ethanol thing is blown out of proportion. Now, if you have old equipment 25 years or older, you won't want to use E10 because those engines and the supporting plumbing weren't made to stand up to ethanol products. But modern engines, especially the ones with fuel-injection, are just fine. If you have a massive fuel tank like 100L+, then also use stabilizer because who knows when you're going to get around to using it all.

A little bit of a rant about the government. Did you guys end up catching the latest gun bans? They are looking at banning a ton of bolt action and shotguns now. None of that is solving the gang crime in Toronto. This government is going too far.

I agree with Disco .......about using fuel stabilizer , I use it in every jerry can and fill up the boat, snowmobile, snow blower, lawnmower . I use Stabil the RED colour fuel stabilizer and I also ad a little Seafoam.( Seafoam is great!) This will protect my gas from phase separation.

I also agree with reelinginthebigone .......you don't have to use premium high octane , and if you have newer engines with fuel injection , more likely you will not have problems using gasoline E10. But unfortunately my outboard does not have the fuel injection system, it is the old carburetors design and when the jets are plugged up related to using E10 gasoline.........it IS a NIGHTMARE to fix the problem. ( Happened with me 18 years ago, almost got stranded in the middle of lake Simcoe on Victoria Day long weekend. I spent the rest of the long weekend taking all 3 carburetors apart........clean out the jets.....gunk......etc) A NIGHTMARE!!

After that I switched over to using gasoline with containing no ethanol.........and NEVER again had any problem.

But I just found another Stabil BLUE colour stabilizer it says STABIL MARINE 360 fuel stabilizer for Ethanol. They recommend using this to control ethanol .......maybe it would work??

I'll give a try.

But also I was reading they don't recommend putting the boat away into winter storage with empty tank or partially filled tank. Because of condensation build up inside the gas tank and water will get into the gasoline. The Ethanol collects moisture and will separate gas and water . If the gasoline got phase separation and got water in it ........the entire tank of gas need to be removed . What they recommend is fill up the tank about 95% full( leave room just enough for gas expansion ) but no room for condensation. Use fuel stabilizer against phase separation ( RED STABIL) and plus now I will use additional BLUE STABIL MARINE 360 for the Ethanol in the gasoline. You will not go wrong with using a little more stabilizer . It may cost a few extra dollars but no need to buy expensive premium gas either.

My outboard is older but running great and I have no plan for replacing it with a new one just to get a new one with fuel injection.

And I'm sure there are many guys out there using older outboards with old fashion carburetors.

I'd agree that any newer engine is going to be fine. My outboard is a 2011, I have only ever put regular gas in it, I do put stabilizer in starting in September or there abouts, and again in the spring when I bring it out. I was told years ago to keep the tank filled to stop condensation, which I pretty much do. I always put stabilizer and hightest in my jerry can that goes into all my small engines. I have a chainsaw that is 30 years old and it starts within 3 pulls and it sits for months at a time. The MG sits for like 5 months it also gets hightest and stabilizer, that is the one I worry about. On a side note I was also told to change your oil in the fall before putting it away, so any moisture in the oil is flushed out and doesn't rust your oil pan.

Are you talking about the lower unit ......gear oil????

Yes it should be changed in the Fall BEFORE winterising boat.

But if you have 4 stroke outboard ......you can change motor oil and oil filter in the spring........put fresh clean oil just before the season.
A factory trained marine technician told me .

You should never have moisture in the motor oil.........if you have ....there is a problem

I do my oil changes and winterise my boat in the last 23 years.......never had a problem with that.

Not fully true.
Nothing about bolt actions (although I wouldn’t put it past that idiot in the future). For now it’s anything centrefire, semi-auto that has a removable magazine.

Also, I’m my earlier post, I am speaking from the perspective of a guy who has older (pre-2000) non efi carbureted 2 stroke motors on sleds/outboard.

sorry I was talking about my car, if there is any condensation in the engine oil it will rust the pan, at least this is what my mechanic told me, as he has seen a lot of rusted out oil pans. never hurts to change outboard oil in the fall as that way you know there is no problems with water and if there is water you have time to investigate and repair. Todays oils have a long shelf live so it doesn't hurt to have the oil fresh in the engine, sitting there all winter,
