Hey folks, I am heading up to north(ish) quebec at the end of the month for a canoe/fishing trip and apparently most of the lakes in the area only have brookies. I haven't really targeted them much but from some quick research seems like spinners and some mid to deeper diving crank baits may be good. will be willing to try anything just need to know what to load into the tackle bag.
also will be bringing a portable finder with us so if a particular depth range is ideal this time of year that would be helpful as well. It is a smaller lake without any contour maps available so we are going in mostly blind to start.

1/4 - 1/3 oz. little cleos 6lb Berkeley trilene Maybe a keel weight 30” ahead of spoon (if needed) for a bit more depth Trolling slowly parallel with shore in 15-30 f.o.w. Touch of worm or minnow head on treble may help them commit rather than just nip at it. If you’re still getting no action, try the same technique out above the deepest part (centre) of the lake. Sometimes I’ve found them suspended out there. If you get a few hits in a distinct area, but not a lot of hook ups, maybe stop trolling and drop shot a worm on a single hook.
By no means the only way to do it, but this is how I would start.

Black/gold/silver EGB tipped with worm. And 1/4oz stand up jig head with a 2” chartreuse vibrotail jig tipped with worm. I cast the edges of steep exposed rock drops.. and deep logs. Bounce bottom. Or jig suspended off points in 30 fow.

If thier anything like in algonquin, try small Williams warbler behind smallest dipsy diver. I agree with the suspended ones over the deepest part of the lake. They seem to congregate their mid summer. Another great summer technique i find is to go out just before sunrise and if the water is like glass, you can see them nipping at bugs on the surface. Go to where they surfaced and cast a spinner. I always seem to get a few this way.

Awesome. Will def pick up some of the mentioned tackle.
Thanks folks! Will post a report when I get back at the end of the month. Wasn’t planning on bringing any live bait at all but maybe will bring a few worms to tip baits.
