Hi all. I'm heading up to Magnetawan (Lake Cecebe) from Oct 1 - 11. I've never been up fishing there at this time of year. Any tips on what I should focus on for depth and structure? I'd like to target walleye but I know they're tough to find on that lake. Any pointers in general or for the lake would be appreciated.

Cheers

Hey,

I do an annual trip to that area end of october. If you want the bigger walleye, I always head to the end where wind blows to. You should find large bait schools blown into this area and the big females follow these big bait schools, munching down all day. Around 30-40 fow seems to be my luckiest depth. Trolling deep diving cranks. My favorite is purple rapela tail dancer. Dives 30 ft. This time of year I find the bite best at sundown and a couple hours thereafter. Creepy though, trolling in pitch black. Don't forget you boat lights!

You could try a bottom bouncer. Thats what I have used in the river with a worm harness behind it. Good luck

Thanks for the tips guys. I wouldn't have considered going that deep this late in the season. I'll be sure to bring the right tackle!

Cheers

Figured I'd add an update here after my trip. The weather was phenomenal which only made things better. I did try fishing the main lake in 30 - 40 feet but only caught one small walleye despite seeing many big marks and schools of baitfish. Most success was trolling over weeds in about 8 feet. Mostly pike, but I did get a couple of walleye there as well. Thanks again for the responses.

Cheers

Thanks for the report. I live a short drive to that area but I have not ventured over to the magnetawan River for many years. I'm glad to hear that you found some Walleye and got a nice eater. Did you take more pictures? And what presentations produced if you don't mind me asking ?

A shallow diving rapala was by far the best. Large minnows on a bobber from shore worked for the pike as well.

Good luck out there!
