Went to try our luck for fat fall largies and pike on lake Couch yesterday with a buddy. Launched at around 2 pm and fished till sunset.

Water temps dropped to about 15C which in my books signals a start to a fall fishing. It’s late start this year due to the very unseasonably warm September and October temps.

Tried all my spots which were working well last year but this time we were having very limited luck. It seemed like the fish is all over the place and still quite spread out and have not yet started bunching up in the usual late fall/winter spots .

I was able to get three nice largies in 3lb, 4 lb and 5 lb class and a decent pike of about 9 lb. A few decent size perch was also caught on spinners and jerkbaits.

Bass was where it supposed to be: thick weedbeds in 5-8 FOW and pike nearby on the drop off.

One interesting thing happened to me for the first time: I caught two bass on one jerkbait. First I thought I have got a decent pike as the fish was pulling down and were not trying to jump but we could not believe what we saw when I reeled that “fish” to the boat: two bass hooked by two trebles of the same lure.

The pike took a LC Flash Pointer 130SP jerk but it did it so carefully that I barely noticed the bite.

Overall fish mood was subdued in general.Maybe it was the full moon thing or weather swings that affected the bite, who knows. It can only get better going forward with cooling seasonal trend

My first ever catch of two bass on one lure...

Thanks for the report and the details JB.

Would be a good day in my book.

You should have thrown some jerkbait with three treble hooks to check your luck

DB's, CM's and your reports make me puzzled where to go tomorrow and get skunked...
