Really nice fish you caught, the pictures turned out great. It is too bad that goby have invaded the lakes. I have killed quite a few on sturgeon, disgusting fish.
Works out for me, because it makes the lake trout bigger
Also, serious question - Does it matter which type of bait setup you use for perch? Every time I decide to get into them, I drop a worm and a hook and literally pull up as many as I want. They never seem too picky.
I find live bait will catch way to many tiny perch.
I use artificials only as I really don’t want to catch small perch.
Awesome catch despite tough conditions, and super cool melanistic perch.
I 100% agree on the artifical bait. It's amazing some of the tanks I have caught (by accident) throwing cranks and jerkbaits for bass.

I would love to put this to the test some day as many great anglers I know have tried and failed with artificials on Erie for perch.
I never fished for perch in Erie but AFAIK it's completely possible to catch'em with artificials on Erie too. Just watch IVO catching perch with jigging spoons
