Finally the sun came out and it is a balmy 4 degrees right now. Last night it was 1 degree and snowing. Fish started to bite before dusk. Caught 6 big bass kept two. The best part of the night was the crappie after dark. The first ones were small 9 to 10 inches but caught about 25 and let them go. Then no more bites for an hour or so. Then wham a hard hit...big crappie. Only kept 6 as the big ones did not hang around long. Then no more hits from anything so went home. Here is a couple pictures.

another very productive night, walleye closes tonight , monday, how long do you continue withthe bass and crappie ?im done now till may .
Going fishing now. I fish for bass for a bit more but crappie and pike I fish until the water turns to ice. Hard to say what will happen today with the sunshine and wind change.

Back from fishing now had to give up my line was freezing to the reels on three poles. Basically got skunked tonight any way. This might have been my last night of fishing because the temperature will be cold now after sunset. Bring on the spring and just skip winter. LOL.

yeah, it was really slow last night. post frontal conditions with rising pressure... For your freezing rod guides try dunking them in the water or use some silicone . This time of year i switch from casting to spinning gear , which has larger rod guides but yesterday i was still using casting gear.

Another nice haul CM. I dont think you are done yet i think you may be out again yet. The weather is very unpredictable these days. Last year guys were out in boats on simcoe for trout/whitefish opener Jan 1st. Be safe out there.

Thank you for the comments. I will get out sooner or later to catch some pike. Working as well and see how the weather goes. I am just happy to have a whole bunch of crappie and 5 bass and 4 walleye in the freezer so that they can have a fish BBQ a few times over the winter. Good luck to those fishing today. Stay safe.
