The Niagara Parks Police Service, Niagara Regional Police Service, Niagara Falls Fire Department, and Niagara EMS responded to a 9-1-1 call today in the lower Niagara River Gorge. An angler was reported stranded on a rock past marker #12 from the Whirlpool Trail. Male rescued by Niagara Falls Fire Department with cold water gear and a ladder. The male refused medical treatment at the scene and was subsequently charged under the Trespass to Property Act. The Niagara Parks Police Service is reminding the public of rapidly changing conditions along the shoreline of the lower Niagara River.

Ya saw that. Must have pretty inexperienced with the Niagara. Also I assume he lost his rod. I wonder who took the pic? Did emergency services just say “hey let’s snap a photo of this sad person first”?

Unbelievable, incredible, inconceivable, preposterous... Did I mention why would anyone do this. You can die in a minute, from one second of not thinking things through to an end result. Stay safe out there all. Before you do anything, just ask yourself....What might happen if this does not work????

I was just there last week. So funny to see this so soon afterward. Wife and I took a hike down the gorge at Niagara Glen. Signs the whole way on the water trail about No Tresspassing, Risk of drowning, etc. It really appeared they do not want you hiking down the last bit to get to the waters edge. With that said, saw about 10 people at the waters edge fishing. I was actually questioning whether fishing was allowed or not as I was considering it for a future adventure. So are the signs just a 'cover your butt' on their part or is it truly illegal to go to the waters edge to fish?

Water goes up and down fairly quickly at the whirlpool. I almost lost my tackle bag my first trip there as it started to wash away. I always bring a throw rope for emergencies like that. Glad he made it back to shore ok.
