So I had heard in addition to the parking restrictions in Oro-Medonte that Ramara also implemented new parking bylaws and I wanted to figure out what parking would look like for non-residents in the Brechin/Lagoon City area. Looks like if you aren't a resident, you are out of luck... The e-mail reply I got from the Ramara Bylaw e-mail today stated that the only place you can purchase a permit to park is the Bluebird location, but the site also lists Lagoon City Park. Just wondering if anyone has any info on this? Sucks there aren't even really any options for paid parking

"Hello,

As a non-resident you may use the mobile honk app on your phone to purchase a permit at the Bluebird location near the Orillia Airport. All other roads require a residential permit for parking."

The same happened with Barrie a while back.

When I came up to Barrie 10+ years ago, it was awesome. Park wherever you wanted... enjoy the stroll downtown on Lakeshore.

Now it's literally mini-toronto. Paid parking all over with confusing bi-laws that you need a law degree to figure out if and when you can park.

Once you park by taking out a second mortgage on your house, you literally need to get back to that car within a few minutes of expiry or you're going to find a parking officer at your car slapping on that ticket.

These small towns up here are losing their appeal.

Yep after going thru this fee disguised as protectionism whilst my daughter tried to access pre-natal healthcare at the Orillia hospital last year (co-vid baby). I have implemented a boycott of the Orillia area since last year. I will continue to use Canadian gov't access points, if necessary. BUT instead of going to Orillia to spend our precious consumer dollars, we now completely avoid any businesses in the whole area. We just pass thru and spend our money in Peterborough or the GTA. It's worth the drive to avoid Ontario's armpit. $55 bucks eh? you're losing millions, nice downtown BTW Leacock would be proud...LMFAO Oh for another by-pass around the 'screw it lets re-locate' Orillia west Bass Lake Rd. traffic snarl. How bout a roundabout? sounds about Orillia's speed. They don't realize visitors are their only redeeming factor.

Won't change a thing. Normal results of population getting bigger and bigger and expanding out from big cities. If anything, it will get worse with every passing year.

Have to agree 100%. Getting to be tougher each year to access many old spots to access Simcoe for a days fishing.

City's response:

"Can't fish Simcoe from your normal spots that were free and accessible in the past? Then please be sure to buy a 1.5 million dollar condo at Friday Harbour or a $5000/year slip."

Capitalism at its finest.

Notice how they aren't upgrading that Tiffin launch? Tiffin has to be the worst launch I've ever seen - ever!! Crooked metal docks ready to rip your boat in two, chaotic parking and not enough space for the number of people who want to enjoy Simcoe. However, their paid launch continues to be pretty darn good at $17.77 for the day - Still, not enough parking at all.

Once Barrie redid Lakeshore it all started to go downhill. Boulevards instead of open space were the worst darn idea I've ever seen. Who plans these things? Let's see their thought process: "Downtown Barrie is a popular area for tourists all around. You know what? Let's take a great open space and make it feel cramped with lots of one-ways and no space to maneuver like a mini-Toronto."

Barrie - If you want to see how to do launches correctly, go down to the GTA. Whitby has a fantastic public launch with lots of room to maneuver, lots of free parking, etc.

Remember 10 years ago? You could launch at Tiffin, park your entire trailer and vehicle on the side of the dirt road, or the many unclaimed dirt lots.

Amen, along with their silly sidewalk cafe's that cluster the traffic during summer and who knows what it does in winter. Oh, but there have to be special signs according to that one counselor that thinks the world runs on butterfly farts. Useless projects. Fix the roads, ie, highway 90 bottleneck between Tiffin and Ferndale, 4 lanes down to 2 and then back to 4. Nuts. Half the time you want to use the Tiffin launch i the summer, they have walks and runs that close off the boat launch on weekend days, go run/walk somewhere else.

Actually Steve's comment brings up a question for me.
I've never ice fished before but was considering giving it a try this year on Simcoe.
I thought I might try one of the hut operators first just to see.
Does anyone know what the parking situation is like with them?
Do they have a designated lot or is it just pay the town or city like everyone else?
Thanks
