Actually Steve's comment brings up a question for me. I've never ice fished before but was considering giving it a try this year on Simcoe. I thought I might try one of the hut operators first just to see. Does anyone know what the parking situation is like with them? Do they have a designated lot or is it just pay the town or city like everyone else? Thanks
Most ones I used for perch fishing have free parking available at their place.

It's like summer fishing, but colder and less fun. All jokes aside, some people really do like it. You're right - a good idea would be to try a hut out for a day and see if you even enjoy it before investing in equipment.
The one good thing about ice fishing is being able to sit in a hut and get ripped with your friends, I guess Not even sure that's legal because the law has bounced back and forth on that subject.

To be honest I'm not good on frozen water. Long story but let's just say when I was a kid I had a very bad experience. I would never get ripped and step foot on the ice LOL. I'll save that for when I'm at home. That being said... under the right conditions I'd like to try fishing. We will see how it goes this year.

In my opinion, if you have a boat and proper setup.. then screw winter. Best to use the winter to work on the stuff we put off during the summer
To all my buds who love those sub-zero temps, all the power to you. I don't function under 22c

Part of the problem is that people are straight up pigs and I witness this first hand as I live near the water. You have people coming from outside the region and some locals too, use these access points and treat it as their own personal disposal site. Unfortunately, that comes with a cost to the township, and taxpayers. It has already happened to about 90% of my favorite river access points on private property, where these so called anglers literally destroy the area. If people had some respect we wouldn’t be in this situation. I’m not blaming all anglers, but unfortunately it’s that small percentage that ruin it for everyone else. Literally every time I go out fishing I try to pick up a bag of garbage. Clean up after yourselves or this will be a continuing trend.

I agree with Pucilo, these areas get abused to the point where the locals just get fed up. I do most of my fishing in Michigan but Simcoe has been a destination for me at least once a year. I don't know what the deal is on that lake but I see so much garbage everywhere. I see it at the launch points, I see it in hotel parking lots, and worst of all I see it on the ice. There's pigs everywhere but the shear amount of trash I see there is unprecedented. It's our own so called fellow sportsmen that are causing this headache.

I have also run into the same issue with parking around Bass Lake, Little Lake and Orr Lake. They now all require resident permit parking, not really sure where that leaves ice fishing anglers as some of us like those little lakes before Simcoe and Couchiching freeze over.
Sad to see that the many have ruined it for the few.........

Well, the obvious answer is just to purchase a lakefront property for $4 million, like all the politicians creating these laws, and pay those taxes to the town. The town can't just have people using the crown water for free now...
