It will be December before they release the 2022 regulations. It sounds like the slot will be between 40 and 45 cm though. Also I heard that changes are coming to bass fishing as they are now going to be considered as invasive with the season opening the same time as walleye.
Won't know for sure until December.
Here is another thread about it.

I would welcome 15.75 in [ 40 cm ] instead of the 18.1 in. but have my doubts the overdue change will happen. Don't forget your slide ruler if it comes in.

The proposed regulation for Walleye, beginning January 1st, 2022, is a HARVEST slot of 40 to 45cm. That means you can harvest Walleye between 40 and 45cm (the rule from 1999 to 2014 was a PROTECTED slot where all Walleye from 40 to 60cm had to be released). The creel (possession) limit will remain at 2 fish.

That would be awesome! At least we could bring home something, my wife is starting to wonder if going ice fishing is even worth it if all we do is through them back.

Has there been any decisions on changing the slot size from 18.1 inch slot to being able to keep 2 walleye in the 40 -45 cm slot?

My understanding is that it is happening as of January 1st. Also there will be no leeway. Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. 2" is tight slot but to be sure I'm thinking you are looking at 1"3/4 to be on the safe side, especially if one was to have a few pops before measuring !! NOTE: My bay is frozen as far as i can see this morning. Cold the next two nights before a warm up, lets hope it stays together!

The following year's regulations are usually released mid December so we should know for sure soon. I suspect it will be as discussed at 40 to 45 cm. As SSIC said it is a tight slot size.

South Bay is frozen out past the red marker out from Beacon Island but I can see water between it and the Gull Islands using binoculars. There is a few inches of snow on the ice with a little more coming down currently.

Well there it is folks. We might actually be able to get a couple keepers this year. Make sure you’ve got an accurate bump board cause not much room for error. 5cm to play with.

54" musky should ensure almost 0 musky are kept.

Going to see a lot of walleye kept with the new rule even with 2. Lots of huts have 6 people in them (overnighters).

I don't think that is not going to mean that everyone will take and eat their limit everyday they are out there. I think most groups will enjoy a good fish fry while being there and releasing the rest to sustain this great walleye fishery
