Windy again as usual so we are stuck on shore again tonight. The past two days were not too bad though. Yesterday with the north wind was a little tough to get the fish to bite. Marked lots on the screen but not many takers. We caught 4 out of 5 fish for the day in about 10 minutes out of 6 hrs of fishing but no keepers on Monday. The fish were 2 - 22" pike, 2 13" largemouth and a 8" perch.
Went out walleye fishing this morning at 6:30 am with the owner of the cottages. We marked all sorts on the screen but still no takers for a bit. First fish on was a 28" pike for the owner and then 10 minutes later hubby caught another 28" pike which we kept. No walleye biting and also no smallies either which was a huge surprise since we were in smallie territory and using minnows.
The owner had to go in to work so we hopped in our boat and headed to the bridge area. No fish caught in that area so we decided to head to another familiar area and first drift down, I caught a 27" pike which was kept and a 24" pike in another area which we threw back. No more fish biting and the wind was picking up so we headed to another area that was more sheltered and hubby caught a 27" pike which we also kept. By this time, it was 1pm and we were pretty much beat for the day and I also had 4 pike to filet so headed in. All the pike had empty bellies so I'm not sure what that was all about as well as not catching any bass while using minnows. Maybe tomorrow morning they will start biting as well as the walleye.

Hey Nicole, Thanks for the fishing report, sounds like you guys are having a good time out there. Lots of pike in the 1000 Islands and nothing wrong with hooking up with 25in+ fish all day. Some people say they don't fight, but when they first bite, They go NUTS... I have had pike literally pull the rod out of my hand...
I have never caught walleye in the 1000 Islands myself.. But I remember watching a fishing show some years ago and they were doing pretty good. I can't remember all the details, but I think they were fishing in the spring, and they were close to shore..

Thank Jerry, we had heard from the owner of the cottages that on the Thursday before we arrived, they were pulling their limit of walleye out from the Gananoque Narrows but needed live minnows to do it. We will keep trying but this is the same general area we are getting the pike as well so we are not wasting time by fishing for the walleye. Most walleye here are usually caught at night but we are not comfortable fishing at night especially when the water levels are down 2 feet from normal levels.
Wednesday was another great day of fishing, especially for me. The totals for the day were 6 perch (10" and under so they went back), a 14" smallie and 4 pike with another which came off the hook before getting to the boat. The pike were 26", 20", 23" and a massive 32" one which was a great fight. All fish were released. All of the fish were caught by me except the 23" pike but hubby was just happy to catch a fish. The pike are just slamming the bait right now and you definitely know when you have one. The 25+ pike do give a nice fight as well but pound for pound bass are much more fun and throw in some acrobatics as well. For some reason we are not catching as many bass as I thought we would.
We had a tee time booked for the afternoon so we came in by noon to have a shower and some lunch. We were out late for dinner at the owners of the cottages so slept in this morning but back out soon and will by walleye fishing this evening with the owners.
