Arrived around 3pm to our cottage and 30km winds on the river We knew Saturday was going to be a write off but glad we didn't try to get here earlier because they had 50km winds before we arrived. We were able to get the boat in the water though so we could just jump in the boat on Sunday.

We headed to a spot that has been producing walleye but they were only biting live minnows and our regular bait shop did not have any. I caught a 14" fatty smallmouth there which weighed about 2.5 lbs. We went to our regular bay that we fish quite a lot but nothing was biting and then I started reeling in and felt a big fish. Had a few tugs and snap, it was gone. I was dropshotting a 3" gulp alive minnow so the pike must have swallowed the bait and cut the line. I was still rigged up with a lighter flurocarbon leader from Sturgeon as well. I also caught a small largie as well that morning.

On our next trip out that day we headed to a small island close by and first drift, I caught a 10" perch which we let go, then a 28" pike which gave a nice fight and also a 10" largemouth which went back all caught on a twister tail dropshot. Hubby also managed a smaller pike (22") and a 13" largemouth in the same area. Fishing slowed after that so we headed in so I could filet the pike before it got dark.

I forgot my cord to download the pictures from our camera so I will have to upload them when we get back on the weekend. We are getting minnows this morning so we can try and catch some walleye.

Good Luck with the walleye!

Great report and glad you got out there and hooked into some fish.
Love those fatty smallmouths.. Good for you catching those fish on artificials.
Yes I know live minnows can sometimes work better, but there is something special about catching fishing with lures..
