Well if there aren't enough hoops and loops in life to jump through, here's another. Took a look earlier today, aha, PCL is expiring in Feb 22. Go to the website for renewal, name, rank, service number, shoe size, etc. Now they want a picture of an acceptable gov't issued id and a full side picture of the boat along with hull number and hull compliance tag number.

Wow
Last August for a "Renewal" I did not need a photo of the boat or picture ID

Are you sure you checked renewal?

Oh

I got mine 18 years ago and had to sit in a class. It does not have an expiry on it.

I wonder if it actually now expires.

My daughter got her PCL this year and it expires.
Mine was issue a year after the program began and it never expires.
My understanding is the new ones do expire but the old ones were grandfathered in and never do.

Pleasure Craft License (PCL) is the boat license (the registration numbers on the hull of the boat).
PCL is valid for 10 years but there's some rumblings about reducing it to a 5 year period.

Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC) is the boater license, required for a person to operate a boat.
PCOC is valid for life.

I think "the Lazinator' got it right.

The PCL (for hull registration / S.N.# with Transport Canada) is valid for 10 yrs, while the PCOC (license to operator a boat) is a lifetime ticket.

Cheers,

Thank you for the clarification, had no idea my hull numbers expire after 10 years.

Cheers

I didn’t know this either. Turns out I’m driving around more than a year overdue I guess.

Yes thank you I was referring to the PCOC.
My daughters PCOC she did this year does expire. Heads up to new PCOC card holders.
