Ok, guys. This will sound strange.
I have this ritual, to appease the ice fishing gods for the season, I start every season with a double shot of whiskey. But I put a live minnow in the whiskey and down it lol.
I buy my bait from Toronto for local tackle shops.
How dangerous is this practice regarding parasites? Is it ok to do?

Well eggs come out of a chickens butt, people eat steak tartar and sushi, I can't imagine a minnow rinsed in whiskey is going to kill you.

I'm sure you'll live, I've seen others do it on bets and all that, they've all been alright. Now the most important question...Does it work? Need to know for science purposes...

Good question. I guess it would depend on what fish you are after. If you are going for pike or walleye, live minnow works fine but if you are after panfish like perch or crappie I would think worms, maggots and insect larvae would work better

Interesting... I dont think a fresh shiner will do much harm. I eat with and drink with the same hands that handle worms and fish all day when out fishing.

Can't see just one minnow washed down with whiskey would hurt you. but don't recommend snacking on the other 119 minnows in the pail during the day. Ever heard of the "emerald shiner two step"?
