That little back lake you mentioned has me wondering : where, whats in it, easy access lol.

Drove through downtown Barrie yesterday, there was ice covering a lot of the bay. Way down the bay I believe I saw a hut and a person out on the ice. Wouldn't catch me out there at this point, but someone decided to chance it.

Had to go to Haliburton yesterday. Traveling up 35, moore lake (right side headed north, where bridge crosses south end of gull) is completely wide open. On gull lake, Miners bay is frozen over with one patch of open water (I think there is a spring there). Gull Lake hut rentals had their huts out yesterday on what looked to be 4-5" of glare ice. Moving north on 35 that little pocket lake (I think it is Cedar lake) off to the right of 35 is frozen and there were a number of popups on it and people walking around. Further north where you can see Gull from the road it appears that substantial parts of the lake are still open or were yesterday. Kashagawigamog is completely frozen although I did not check the narrows as they are hard to see from the road. From the city of Haliburton to the drag river, 4 of these lakes have current moving through them so I would NOT stray outside the protected bays. Walked out and it was 4" of clean hard - glare ice. Similarly grass and head lake are frozen. There is little to no snow up this way so crampons/cleats are a must right now. I did not see anyone fishing any of the drag lake chain, I did see some folks ice skating on small rinks in the protected bays.
