No Parking, No parking on streets at access points

So along with the "how thick is the ice?" postings we should be seeing alot of "is the ice thick enough to park on?" posts. Would be great if there was a parking and shuttle service for you and your gear offered by locals with larger properties near access points that was reasonably priced.

Another business idea:
Stand at access point, and for 5 bucks, watch over someone's gear while he goes to park his vehicle

Would this work for 5 bucks? I mean I get 5 bucks from you, you go park your vehicle, I see your gear are worth at least several hundred bucks. And then what? By the time you park your vehicle, return to where you left your gear, me and your gear are long gone!:-) So pay me at least what your gear are worth. JK

I think you are being unfair. no one here is mad at vets. we all owe them a debt that cannot be forgotten. and i for one fully support the "little token of appreciation".

Now, this may sound blunt and uncaring, and that is not my intention, but from the direction the discussion is headed, what started as a cry of unity for all fisherman to preserve our right to enjoy a public amenity, now sounds like "I'm a vet, I found a way". Emphasis on I, not US

So I think Omcdinosaur was attempting to convey that we should try to continue including all fisherman in whatever solution is to be found (if any). Which i also support.



All that said, if you have friends (and these friends can be of all kinds) that will accept to let you move in (even if don't actually move in) you would be entitled to a resident permit. And i know i would gladly share a $50 bottle of Johnny with such a friend. Now, if we all could only find such friends. Did i say too much already?

I think his comments were pretty clear. I in no way support closing road side parking. But, for paid lots, to be upset somehow that veterans get it free is ridiculous. Please also note, I do not personally take this "perk". I have always paid for my own parking, and very rarely will accept any sort of "Military perk" as I never feel right taking them, there's people more deserving then I. This isn't a "I found a way" post. Do not worry, I am on your side on this, taking away street parking is ridiculous. My comments were directed at his comments on how he was upset veterans got more perks then every day Canadians.

Great to see this conversation being had. It's incredibly important and an increasing concern, even beyond Lake Simcoe. Lake of Bays, for instance, is now much the same.

We need real, tangible action if we want anything to change. That means large numbers of people focusing their energy together, speaking to politicians, showing up to townhall meetings, leveraging our power as anglers.

A good place to start might be to contact the OFAH, who do deal with access issues.

It is getting a little ridiculous with the parking. First of all I try to understand both sides from the residents and the visitors but I feel it has come to a point where they just don't like the visitors.
That being said, there are many visitors that ruin it for everyone. People need to respect the environment and show a little common sense and etiquette to the residents and the surroundings. All the garbage that's left behind and disrespecting all bylaws, no wonder why residents get upset. I'm not a resident of Simcoe area but it bothers me when I see bunch of people drive up from Toronto thinking Lake Simcoe is their backyard.

100%,I am a resident of simcoe ,not sure if it's always the "Toronto " people though, I was down at one of the access points near me this morning, and I found two freshly caught herring thrown in the snow Bank,why??this is what makes people mad

I agree 100% that we must respect the residents when it comes to noise and pollution. I would love to see them enforce littering and noise bylaws rather than basically ban people from visiting the lake unless they have very deep pockets.
I personally don't believe that is the real reason that they are trying to make this a residents only area.

I definitely sympathize with the residents in terms of them having to put up with trash and disrespect to their neighborhoods but not one iota do I care about the residents griping about people visiting the area.. they should know what they're getting into when they're buying a place at the most popular Lake in the province. This is all to be expected and they don't own the lake..... We all own the lake.
The answer has always been there. It is very simple. There just has to be consequences for people's actions in terms of littering and penalties.
People have always and they will always change their behavior when there's a price tag that goes along with it.

I am from Michigan and I feel like we also get a bad rap like Toronto, there are bad apples in all barrels. Myself and my group are very respectful. We always try to be kind and avoid confrontation with other sportsmen, we never litter and will pick up trash just like every other respectful person. We really respect peoples privet property bc we believe the disrespect of privet property is the fastest way for one person to ruin it for everyone. It sure would be nice if we had some more parking options. I would be happy to pay $50 for the day or maybe even more for the convenience of being close to the lake. I liked parking at Taj's but someone had to ruin that, I hope he gets that straightened out soon. Still from there it can be quite a ride depending on where you plan to fish. I'll sometime rent a room at Inn on the Lake for $150 just so I can park there, I won't even spend the night. Parking has become troublesome in many places I like to visit in Canada. We have some of the same problems in Michigan but it's not close to Simcoe and the surrounding areas, it seems to get worse each year. I feel like we're getting the stink eye just riding around with our trailer.

Anglers do not successfully lobby or organize. It's really that simple, unless anglers unite and fight for access it's going to keep disappearing at a fast rate.

Judging by this thread anglers definitely won't be fighting for access anytime soon, so ya.

Quipping about garbage is a waste of time. This is not about garbage. It's classic entitlement and selfishness, apparently to fish a lake you have to own property on it, welcome to new Ontario.

Yeah I know... but for the most part it is Toronto people. Like I said I'm not a resident of Simcoe but I've seen enough s*&#. I'm from Toronto and I get upset seeing the BS up there especially during the summer times. I've visited Simcoe area for over 30 years.

I say this with frustration because Lake Simcoe use to be a place to get away from all the BS and relax my mind. But now it's hard to find a place to park. It is what it is....
