No Parking, No parking on streets at access points

And there's your answer why.
No point petitioning the local government as they will not listen to a few non area voters .
Think this matter needs to be sent to the minister of municipal affairs. Descrimination based on residence should not be allowed. Not saying free parking for all but reasonable parking fees applied equally to all with the elimination of selective/restrictive parking.

Hi Folks:

I have lived in several communities with lakes and without exception parking around the lake(s) was always an issue - both in the winter and summer and more like year around.

Generally speaking the lake side parking problem is multi-faceted and cannot be narrowed down to a single issue nor a resident/non resident issue.

Unfortunately, the infrastructure (roads, designated road side parking, curbs, parking lots etc.) around most lakes were laid out many years ago and don't allow for the popuation growth of communities and/or the general demand for access to lakes and/or other forms of recreation based on current and future demands.

The roads surrounding most lakes are serviced by narrow 2 lane roads with no designated on road parking (year around) not to mention parking in such areas interfer in traffic flow along with access for emergency vehicles (EMS, fire trucks, police, Ontario Hydro, etc) which can pose potential risks to life and property. In addition, public parking lots around lakes for the most part were developed many years ago and likely do not have enough parking spaces to meet the current demand and its unlikely the parking lots can be expanded due to lack of available land. Furthermore, in many cases when fishing people attempt to park for a day on the lake they have large vehicles along with a large trailer to carry their ATV or ski-doo along with all the other equipment for a day on the ice or in the summer a boat trailer and due and to the shear size of vehicles and assorted trailers etc. attempting to parking in a municipal lot - the lots fill up quickly because the overall size of such vechiles take up 2 or more parking spots.

I personally don't own lake front property but I have witnessed 20+ years of struggles property owners around Lake Simcoe have endured from people wanting to access the lake (to swim, launch canoes, kayaks, boats, ATV's/ski-doo's, go ice fishing, etc.) have inflicted on a regular basis and I recognize its only a "FEW" people who ruin it for others.

I recognize property owners along Lake Simcoe pay a considerable amount of property taxes and have the right to enjoy their property in peace and quiet without restricted access to their property, having their driveways blocked by people parking on the road (in areas where there is no road side parking due to the fact the roads are too narrow to allow for the safe passage of traffic when vehicles are parked on the road - which is bad in the summer but far worst in the winter when there are large snow banks/drifts along the roads that negatively impact traffic flow on narrow roads.

In addition, I know of several situations when emergency vehicles could not fit down a lake side road in an emergency situation (during the summer) due to the fact vehicles were illegally parked along both sides of road and as a result of such situations the local municipalities were forced to try and find a solution to the parking situation along the lake front - which resulted in parking along the roads around the lake shore being declared no parking zones.

I suspect municipalities around lakes sides communities struggle with on going issues regarding access to the lakes, parking for both locals and non residents while trying to support local businesses who benefit from people wanting to enjoy the lake. Not sure if there is a solution for the limited number of parking spots around local lakes but providing parking lots near a lake is likely difficult due to the lack of available land along with the fact municipalities near lakes have to juggle numerous demands for services to local residents along with limited budgets - its difficult to keep all interest groups happy and unfortunately I suspect the focus of most municipalities is on serving the needs of their local residents. That being said - perhaps peope who have concerns regarding the number of parking spots around the lake should come up with some ideas for solving the problem and discuss their ideas with the appropriate person at the various towns around the lake b/c complaining about the problem will never resolve the problem.

Its not only a lack of space, its straight up greed or discrimination. There are plenty of municipal lots of good size that charge 10 dollars an hour or 50 dollars a day, everyone agrees thats just highway robbery, there are solutions, its clear they townships are being discriminatory, when residents can park free and non residents get robbed, pretty damn clear to me

Yes I agree it is greed ....only money grabbing from out of Town visitors!!

Some places they do not have enough room for creating extra parking place .
I understand that. But those who have extra place and creating it is only for GREED.......because how many people can afford to pay $50 for parking a day ? And they charge this absolutely ridicules parking rate .......because they want to keep out of Town people OUT of their area!!

I know I will NEVER pay that inflated price and they also know if you are really desperate to park there.....you will pay!!

At the end they will win:........They keep out of Town people OUT ( that`s what they want)!!
Or they will get their highly inflated money.........money grabbing!

That's a fair assessment for a largely unfair situation. The reality is, of course, that parking has always been an issue, but it's never been comparable to now and that's purely because local politicians are making these decisions based on complaints, not access. Anglers and hunters are looked at as remnants from a past that folks would rather move beyond, and without organizing ourselves, we essentially allow this to continue. The irony is, we generally pay more for the maintenance of this resource than any mansion-owner does in property taxes, because the conservation of aquatic systems like Simcoe is primarily done by the Province.

If they don't value us, they aren't going to accommodate us, so that has to change.
