GoldFish Are INVASIVE!

Apparently there are some people out there that think throwing unwanted fish into a Storm Retention Pond is "okay". This is the worst thing one could possibly do...SO DON'T DO IT!! (Just like tossing unused live bait in the Lake).

I live in Alcona, backing onto a Storm Retention Pond. Someone must have dumped some Goldfish/Koi into the pond. Long story short - I noticed kids coming to fish it, Osprey, and Kingfishers dive bombing and coming up with little gold footballs, etc. After looking at some maps I noticed that the pond connects to a stream that connects to Lake Simcoe. I contacted the Town, the MNR, and Invasive Reporting Hotline, etc. Weeks went by without any word. I then contacted Mayor Lynn Dollin, sent her maps, pictures, and outlined the problem. In short order, town staff, contractors, and ecologists were there to investigate. The ponds were pumped out/drained, staff dragged large nets across them to catch all Goldfish. Smaller grates were installed on outlets. In total they removed over 600+ Goldfish/Koi. They even removed Beavers that were daming/clogging the system (threatening flooding in my neighbourhood).

Thank You to Mayor Lynn Dollin, Town Staff, Contractors, and Ecologists that were involved and helped protect my house, my neighbourhood, and Lake Simcoe.

Same stream, about 1 km closer to the lake by Jack Cres/Warrington Way.

I believe the ponds only drain one way ie into the creek, not creek back into pond? It makes you wonder if they would look into the other ponds or inspect closer to the lake?
