When I say I need help, if you ask my two ex-wives, I need a lot of help. That aside I usually attach a Fluorocarbon leader to my lines, either ice or soft water fishing. I normally use a small swivel but feel this is not always the best.

Some people actually tie the Fluorocarbon direct to the other line, I have never been able to successfully do this.

Is there a simple method or video anyone knows about

Thanks Newburg. I’ll probably go through my usual ritual of sorting tackle and re spooling rods once Xmas is done.
I always use a barrel swivel when I attach 2 lines.
I think I’ll give this a try.

Cheers

Chevy, if you are jiggin using a fluorocarbon leader, I find using a small swivel will prevent line twist.
I've actually switched back to using a "small barrel swivel" to prevent line twist as I've found jigs, when the plastic isn't put on exactly right will twist on the down-fall. after a while you have a nice twisted line to drag behind the boat.
At least this is my experience.

Good Luck,

I was wondering about that.

Good Luck,

This is the reason to use a swivel when ice fishing or most vertical presentations. Use a good quality swivel and you can eliminate most of the line twist

I use both.. but I always use a swivel, and always a good quality ball bearing swivel either to join the braid to the floracarbon, orat the teminal point. Ive only tied 10 or 12 dbl uniknots line to line.... First couple of attempts were very frustrating.... wished I was useing 300 lb test, or even beter, 2 different clolored peices of 1/4 inch rope like the guy on the youtube video. When using a uniknot, my terminal tackle is a balbearing swivel with clip, when joining line with a swivel, the terminal point is just a small clip.. I use ball bearing swivel to join line for the finiky fishlike brookies to reduce the size and bulk of my terminal presentation

never had any issues using the quality micro swivels from braid-floro leader....my 4 rods from last season don't even warrant a retie..good to go

I’ve never tied my leader to the main line. Have always used a tiny swivel called an “ant” . Never had an issue. Plus it’s small enough to reel through the guides on most rods, plus if you have a fish on, it’s a good indicator of where the fish is below the ice. 4 ft. lead, reel swivel to almost tip of rod….. fish 4 ft. down. Just my opinion. Good luck and safe fishing this winter!!!🙂

I tie my fluorocarbon leaders directly to my main line using either a double uni-knot or a double surgeon's knot. If I'm using braid as my main line and am using the surgeon's knot I tie a triple. I'll use the uni-knot if I am re-tying at home in the garage. If I am in the boat or on ice I find it easier to use the surgeon's knot, especially when I can't my glasses.

Double uni knot has never failed me.

Dont forget to spit on the line when pulling it tight so you don't burn it.
