Whats your rod setup? - General

Hey fellow fishers, I was wondering for targeting walleye on Nip, what rod setup do you use. What action Rod?
What LB test line?
What presentation?

I am asking because i would like to taylor my arsenal for my yearly trip up.
I will state what i use first..
Medium
10lb braid
just a minnow on a size 1 brown hook

Light/Medium action rod
¼ ounce jig, white or orange with minnows..
6 to 8lb Fluorocarbon line.

Definitely use a Fluorocarbon leader,I would say at least 6ft.

Im might sound real rookie right here but I am assuming if you already use fluoro line you wouldnt need a fluoro leader. Am i correct in that assumption?

You state you use braid ..

If you are using the rod with just a minnow and split shot I would suggest attaching a wire spring bobber (crappy tire has a 2 pack for 5 bucks) to the rod tip to detect the slightest bite as the walleye tend to be super light biters. It also will let you know how lively your minnow is without pulling all the way up to check. For jigging inside the hut I have gotten away from rods and use 1 foot jigging sticks instead for increased sensitivity and better hook set. Good luck.

Light/med action rod, braid with 6’ of fluoro. Generally start of with a Northlands Buckshot or Forage minnow lure tipped with a minnow or minnow head.

I’ve got lots to learn but I have really enjoyed a 27” ML tickle stick, in-line reel with 10# braid, micro swivel and 24” fluorocarbon 6# leader.

Glo-shot spoons (electric perch, pink tiger & wonderbread) seem to be the best producers from a tackle collection consisting of a wide assortment of crowd favourites including vibratos, buckshots, forage minnows, darter jigs, snap raps, rattles, puppet minnows, swedish pimples, slender spoons, fire belly spoons, clam leech spoons, heck the list could go on forever.

This year my annual investment went into dinner bell spoons by frostbite, pumped for these. I also grabbed a red/gold little Cleo, some quality tungsten jig heads, vmc tinglers and coffin spoons.

I’ve always enjoyed having a big variety, if not to ice more fish, at least to keep myself entertained and spend money on myself before the wife claims it.

my go to for a set line inside with a single hook and minnow is a 28 inch ultralite rod with 10 pound braid and a 8 pound floro leader...i can see the minnow dance on the rod tip

my jigging rods are all spooled the same way and are light action as well.

have found you do not require heavy duty stuff to catch fish either big or small....the rodscan easily handle fish of 14-16 pounds

it's about some patience if required and setting the drag properly

During the day if I feel lazy I will set a quick strike rig for pike about 5 feet off bottom on just a spool of line 15 pound held in place b a rubber band and the spool in a bucket.....even if asleep, the banging of the spool if one hits will definately wake you up

Down here in Ottawa I use a med/light with 10# braid with a fluorocarbon leader, min. 5 ft.
Lures include puppet minnow with a minnow head or buckshot 3/8. Colors Perch to silver.
Also I use a baitrunner reel, lets them take line with no resistance. Our waters go from stained to clear in certain areas.
It will be my first trip to Lake Nip.
