Positioning camera for whitefish

Guys,

Wondering what everyone’s favourite way to position camera for whities is. On bottom or off side angled down? I hear sometimes they are camera shy and sometimes not...just starting out using the camera so looking for set up tips.

I like putting ours on a small stand that we put together.
Help down with zip ties.

I sit it right on the ground and while on the stand it sits about 3 inches off bottom.

How far away do you usually place camera away from lures? The reason I’m asking I got a camera last year placed it on bottom about 6 feet away every time I droped jig and it hit the bottom the white fish bolted away spooked?

I got an Aquaview camera last year, and I usually drill three hoes, two to fish from and the middle one for my camera and fishfinder. I put it down first, and leave it there. I keep it a few feet from the bottom, so when a fish goes by, I don't lose the screen from the muck they stir up. I haven't noticed any change in fish behaviour by doing that, so I don't think it matters too much. I think if you put down, then up, then down, multiple times, it may be different. There are many factors to consider besides the camera, so I don't overthink it. It's supposed to be fun, and it definitely is with the addition of a camera.

exact same set up I use with the aquaview......allows you to see them coming in from any direction and adjust your presentation accordingly

So you set it up right beside the whole?

I put my aquavu directly behind the shanty at arms length from the clam rear zipper opening. I pan with a marcum panner. Having it behind you gives you a true left and right orientation as the fish come into frame. I like it off the bottom 1/3 way up tilted down somewhat depending on the depth. This setup also avoids line entanglements.
