Drilling holes using a cordless drill, What torque is required?

Yep, it only takes one time having the auger bind and wrench your wrists to make you want the clam plate. The second handle helps immensely, but the clam plate is totally worth it.

As for a plate to catch your auger - also needed, saved me once already. I used a large (foodservice sized) cream container top. It withstands the extreme cold and adds essentially no weight.

Just picked up the kobalt and a 6ah battery from the states, well see how it does on my regular 8 inch cableas auger.

Just got back from Nipissing, first time out with the kobalt xtr 1200 inch lbs, and cabelas Eze drill 8 inch auger, both brand new, and wow this combo is great, cut through 16 inches in like 5 seconds, 30 holes and still half battery life left. So glad I treated myself this year, and saved a lot of $ not buying the Milwaukee fuel, or the 24 volt strikemaster ice auger. I paid 450 all together with two batteries including taxes, I did save 50 on the auger and 50 on drill/ extra battery, but worth every penny, so happy my hand drilling days are over. Ps I did try my old 18 volt dewalt and works fine in 4 to 6 inches but once you get to a foot or more forget it, drill starts to smell and cuts out all the time. O and never buy an auger that doesn't have that metal spike thing between the blades, if u get that glair ice you might not be fishing that day.
