Hi guys. I've never caught Ling in Canada. Where to look for them this time of season. Depth, time, type of bottom. Bait? Thanks. And have a good fishing weekend.

I've been catching a few every season the last couple of years. I don't target them, but have got them on the same lures as I use for whitefish and lakers.
I believe mid January to mid February they come up onto shallower humps to spawn. This is where I've caught them. They've been feeding on gobies as well.
I think if you were to target them specifically - they are more active at night. From what I understand a set line with minnow works well. They'll be in deeper water during the rest of the season.

On this topic- has anyone ever caught them on lake Couchiching? I also have never caught one, and I'm planning on doing a overnighter soon. I would love to cross it off the species caught list.

I guess I will try to find some accessible deeper water on Simcoe to give my self a better chance at actually catching a fish at night time. Thanks for the info.
