Trilene XL?, Perch/whitefish

I have been ice fishing lake Simcoe for about nine years mainly for perch but have caught the odd whitefish while perch fishing. I use 4-6 and 8 pound Trilene XL on my reels and tip ups and has always worked fairly well for me but I also have cut my line a few times on the ice at the hole losing fish. I had an old timer tell me not to get sucked into all those fancy ice lines they sell😆. My question is the ice line really any better?

XL is all I use for ice fishing...and ever will. -Never had an issue.

6lb on UL rods for Jumbos.
8lb on wooden tip ups for WF/LT

No it’s really not. I do use superline for fishing really deep with a mono leader, but that’s just for sensitivity. Everything that I use mono on gets trilene XL.

Thanks for the input. Really appreciate it. I like it cause it’s smooth and doesn’t kink easy. Has a good feel when pulling something in. But I have nothing to compare it to as I have never used the ice line. Guess I will stick with old faithful 👍🏻
