If you fry up the herring for a fry the same day you cannot tell the difference from perch. If you take them home and fry them up a little later they are not as good.

Great report and fishing ! Enjoyed it!
Too cold for me for the overnighter so well done braving the cold ! Preparation and mental attitude is key .
When walleye was biting it’s must have been warming you up better than the heater

Hey Rey......I forgot to mention that is some nice gourmet presentation on your plate......a chef downtown would be jealous of your work.

Awesome trip. Just wondering how the herring was, as most are loaded with worms?

Herring was awesome grilled. Haven't noticed any worms, so even if there were any, they are digested now...lol

Wow cold adventure Ray. That is some really good fishing but very cold. Glad to see you had great luck up there.....Jamie.

Thanks Jamie, yes it was very cold but exciting. I hated to go out taking a leak in the middle of an arctic night....lol

Don't know. I took it home the same day I caught it, and I'll be honest, I liked it better than perch. Sure perch tastes good when prepared with all those add-ons but that's not the taste of the fish it is either the fish-crisp or a home made batter. IMO with minimal add-ons like salt and lemon juice the herring beats the perch hands down.

Herring has a lot of small bones but when grilled whole and the right way the meat falls off the bones, so there was no issue there. I wouldn't try to debone a fillet though...
