Lure Retriever, Round Ring and a String

Does anyone remember this "lure retriever"?
It was elaborate for sure, it was a heavy string (or light cord) attached the a weighted hard ring with a spring-loaded lever opening?
To use it you open the springed lever, put your line inside the ring, then put the ring (with your line inside it) in the water and let the heavy ring fall down to the lure
.
The idea is that the heavy ring when worked up and down your line will eventually latch on to one of the hooks the lure. Once the weighted ring is attached to lure, the string is pulled freeing the lure. Then you just pulling the rig and lure up together.
I haven't seen it for a while, not even sure if they are still produced.

With the cost of hard baits now, i've lost enough lures to easily pay for one of these retriever many times over.

Has anyone seen one of these?

I am using this one which I bought online somewhere.

It's good for retrieving cranks and jerks (lures with multiple trebles) and success rate is very high

You attach it to a rope and thread your line over the two rings .

The trick is that it has to be quite heavy . Mine is about 2 lb or so.

I also found a version of this same retriever with a few large trebles added to the wire .
it's very popular in Russia where they fish mainly in rivers and flowages/reservoirs with numerous snags , i.e. stumps and tree branches left on the bottom

I bet it works just fine.
Retrieving lures some days is a full time job.

Yeah , it’s looks real weird but it’s actually works pretty good and better than the ring one .
The idea behind having multiple wires of a different length is to enable the retriever to reach deeper and cover the lure with wires to have a better chance of catching one of the hooks of a lure .

very interesting tool...I can say when scuba diving in Tobermory I found a ton of lures and helped clean up.
