Replacing auger blades

I replaced my Eskimo blades the other day and thought I had done it correctly. Obviously not as yesterday when I tried to drill a hole…nadda…just went around and around…lol. Yes, stupid me! Thanks to a gentleman who loaned me his Auger to drill a couple of holes…if you are on here, thank you very much, I appreciated it.

Can someone post a pic of their blades on the auger so I can see what angle they are supposed to be pointed? If I manage to dig mine out of my truck later when and if this snow ever stops I will take a pic and post. I'm sure I put them on upside down..

Just look at the auger.....If the razor edge is not at the bottom touching the ice, it will not cut.

Here's my auger:

hahaha ahh classic. The flat part of the blade needs to be on the botton contacting the ice. The numbers are visible on the bottom of the blade when attached.

Shimming the blades also helps big time..Some blades come with shims but if not pieces of credit card thickness plastic will also work..Good Luck...

I have an 7 inch Eskimo hand auger that is exactly the same thing. I have tried different blades but no change. I was thinking that maybe the Eskimo augers take a different blade. Shimming did not help and I know the blades are on the right way around... I checked.

ARe you guys turning the auger the right way ??

The replacement blades say Mora on them but I thought they were interchangeable? Not true????

Dave---do you use the shim to increase the angle the blade makes with the ice surface?

Most defininietly ...shim back edges of blades giving a more downward cut.

Wouldn't shimming the back edge of the blade, reduce the downward angle of the blade?
If the bolts act as the pivot, I don't see how it can possibly increase the angle?
Are you shimming the blade tip in front of the bolts?
Please explain.....

Not to be a nitpicker, but the blades are cut at a specific angle to maximize efficiency when mounted. How does changing one angle, and not compensate for it with blade angle, improve anything?

Personally, I think it's redundant......... If you really think about it.

My Swede- Bore blades come with shims that go in " Front " of the blades and they definitely help in the cutting angle..Does'nt take long to get through 30" of ice with the drill setup...
