Trekking through snow for perch

I was planning on fishing a small reef this morning, but I got a bit tired of hauling my sled through the snow so decided to just try fishing shallow. Fished in 9FOW with weedy bottom and caught a few, (majority were on the ripping rap) they stopped bitting/showing up at 9:00 so I packed it in.

I didn’t see any big jumbos today or pike but it was better than on Sunday when all I saw was dinks.

Tried a new fish seasoning tonight called Bakers narrows lodge in the dill flavour… overall good but not as good as Italian bread crumbs or fish crisp more of a white colour instead of golden when fried.

Not going out tomorrow as they are calling for 30km winds so hopefully some snow gets packed down or blown around to make travelling easier so I can hunt for some bigger perch on thu.

Any day on the water/ice beats working in my books. Looks like you managed some good eaters. I'm not looking forward to draggin a sled in the snow this weekend.

I was there too. I wonder if I walked past you after I abandoned my ATC in the snow. I should have stayed shallow...

Interesting about the depth. Is there generally a good depth to target perch?

I sort of had it my head from various posts that a good depth to focus on would be 20-25 feet in mid season.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Yesterday we were doing well in 15ft but a good km from shore. Fish weren’t always aggressive but they were there. Every so often a jumbo would slam the lure. I was using dead minnows while son was on plastics. Both worked well.

I got 10 more keepers this morning in 10FOW. I think they are in shallow early and moving deeper as the day goes on.
