Night bite?

Anyone else finding the night bite more
Productive then morning?

Yesterday the evening bite was really good for perch but we packed up and didn't fish at night. Kept 17 and released another 40 or so keepers.

For what fish? For lakers, walleye and burbot, it's not uncommon but there are times a perch won't even hit a deadstick minnow in the dark. They are not effective predators, so you can imagine they aren't looking to feed in low visibility frequently.

Always worth staying until dark to fish the entire golden hour, but often it dies down for perch when the light gets too low.

Nope! Just spent a night out on a lake for pickerel, caught nothing but a cold! The fish seemed to get more active in the morning where we were

If you are lucky enough to be near a school of crappie....you might be surprised!

They like to feed just after sundown a lot of the time I have found - almost as if they come out for a quick feed after the perch stop.

The perch bite definitely slows down when the sun goes down but I almost always fish until after the sun is down.

Last night was a prime example of that. On Rondeau Bay I fished and during the day landed nothing but a random largie and a small pike.

But just after sunset we got a few aggressive bites - missed a few before landing an impressive 12.5 inch female and a nice 10 inch male crappie before heading in. Once it gets dark I smash the bottom with a heavy bait then have a crappie bait ready on my other rod.

Nothing crazy but we were the only ones still out at that time so....we were likely the only people who got crappies that day considering how slow it was and how hard they are to find most days.
