Shallow perch, Caught some shallow again

I caught some more perch fishing shallow in the morning. 10 keepers on the ice by 9:00 not much action after that. The green/chartreuse Lindy flyer caught the majority today.

I have noticed that shallow perch is much more fussy and picky than the deeper ones. Not sure what are the reasons for that. Likely that they are more easily spooked by the noise on the ice and also more scattered around and not moving much.

Ur right about that jerkbaiter. I’ve had some jumbos come in only to give me the cold shoulder and then they keep on trucking.
The fishing seems to be better during the week when there’s not too many out compared to the weekend when there’s a city out there.

Nice pile of perch smilee! That will be a couple nice meals. I’m going to target them in a shallow area again tomorrow. It’s going to be a lot warmer than today… but snowy.

Some nice looking perch there. I fish shallows often and find it a bit more work to land the big ones.

Yeah 10ft or less is shallow to me.

good going guys. Often people forget shallow water for perch...been in as little a 6 ft for some amazing perch fishing (and the bonus, is that you can sight fish easily and be more selective about which perch you pull your bait away from so you reduce the number of dinks you have to unhook). Wait 'til you see a nice size pike cruise by in shallow water too...may have to change your shorts!

Yup been literally scared by pike coming in so fast in the shallow water. They make ya jump a bit when you ain’t expecting it!

If you have the time, set up a dead stick with a large dead minnow (with a decent leader)..large pike are hoot through the ice (and in shallow water). And if you catch a pike from your hole(s), then you probably also have just made your perch fishing better too by removing a large predator. And pike are pretty good to eat as well if you know how to debone them.
