Was wondering what the best way to keep slab grabbers, spoons clean, or how to revive weathered lures? Wd40? Also, personal pref I guess but who takes all lures, only a few or only ones on rods.

I wouldn't use WD40 on lures. I don't think fish will like that scent. If your lures are corroded, you could try painting them with nail polish or use reflective tape they sell in tackle shops to give the spoon a new finish/different colour. Or just replace them if they are really bad.

I’ve read and seen the opposite, people spray lures with it as an attractant
🤷🏼‍♂️

X2 what Drew said.

Haven't seen it in years which is a good thing but guys would even spray their roe bags with it while river fishing.

I have used CLR to clean up rusty slab grabbers and other spoons. But I'm also interested in what other use to clean up their lures.

I've started using Twinkle and it does the best silver restore/polish that I've found to date. Home Hardware usually carries it (with Covid?). It comes with a polish pad and the polish stretches a long way. I just cleaned up a bunch of mag spoons from "the back row" of my salmon tackle box and it brought them back to new looking. ("My allowance doesn't include lure 'replacement costs', .....apparently!")

Best method I found to work is NEVR-DULL, works wonders on tarnished copper spoons.

https://www.amazon.ca/George-Original-NEVR-...270198925&psc=1

can also find it at Canadian tire

A piece of rag and tooth past is the best and cheapest. Does a great job and is readily available and doesn’t bother the fish.

X3....what Drew said.

I can't confirm it works it works as an attractant, but that WD 40 rumor has been around for years now. Worst case scenario.... "no fish" & "no rust" on the lures.

Sure would be nice to have it confirmed...like who doesn't have can of that stuff kicking around...cheaper than buying scent.

Cheers,

First of all - don't let them get rust!
After coming home from a fishing trip I drying my lures by placing the small lure containers on the radiator of central heating. After an hour they are dry and they not getting rust. My 3 cents.

WD 40 is mostly fish oil. Not petroleum oil. It will attract fish.

In summer after fishing in rainy weather I just leave the lure boxes open or dry them quickly with a hair blower.

WD40 is not a good way to protect metal beyond the original application, as it has a drying agent. WD40 is good for displacing water only, hence the name, WD = Water Displacement. It's great for getting into parts of machinery or tools that have many parts meshed together. Lures typically don't have this issue.

But honestly, those fish are not going to like the scent of WD40, as other members have noted. If you must use an oil to displace water, use something like fish oil.
