Hey guys. Fairly new to ice fishing. Went out all day and I caught a pile of perch and just got home they are frozen solid. I mean like bricks. Safe to let thaw in the fridge and fillet in the morning? Thanks

You can do that. I put mine in the sink and fill it with water so that they are covered. They're not as frozen as you may think. It takes about 15-20 minutes and you're good to go.

for sure.......done it many times although it may take longer than just overnight in the fridge

to avoid this next time take a bucket and fill 1/4 with snow, then toss in your fish along with more snow.....usually works but not always as it;s temperature dependant

a cooler to keep them warm is also a good way to prevent freezing solid (many people forget that a cooler insulates in both directions), esp. if you have a bit of water in the cooler too, which you can change if you are getting too much ice.

i use water as well. When I get home I fill bucket with water and go have a beer. by the time you are about half way done cleaning them they will be swimming at least some of them.

Oh yeah, even in the summer I've done it with no issue. Try to keep the fish flat, when they get rigour mortis all curled up, it damages the meat when you gotta flatten em out to fillet. (No safety issue just texture quality.)
