Took a drive down by the lake today to see what was happening.
Line 2-Shanty Bay--Lots of people fishing. Didn't see anyone to talk to.
Line 6-Only a few people out and not out very far. Didn't see anyone to talk to. Looking across towards Big Bay Point, no one out in the middle.
Shellswell Park-No one out
Line 7-No one out. I did talk to someone who had been out and came in. No fish. He had been out about 1km and there was 5 inches of black ice.
Bayview Memorial Park-No one fishing, but a lot of people out para boarding.
Line 9-Couple of people out and not very far. Didn't see anyone to talk to.
NOTE-FROM LINES 6 TO 9 THERE IS A LOT OF BROKEN UP/PILED UP ICE FOR THE FIRST 50 OR 100 YARDS. IT APPEARS TO BE WELL FROZEN, PERHAPS A BIT DIFFICULT WALKING.

Excellent report. Not that I can fish anytime soon but try to keep up with what's happening on the lake by reading posts so if I can fish in a couple of months, maybe I will have a better feel for ice conditions and what fish maybe doing....and then go out and ...still hope to be lucky.

Thanks. Some ads to your report: yesterday I was fishing in Oro Line 2 area, ice was between 7 and 7.5 inches in that area. Had caught none but spent beautiful time on ice.

Thanks Ralph for the report.
By the way, when you (Ralph) saying "Line 2-Shanty Bay--Lots of people fishing", or when naturefan saying "yesterday I was fishing in Oro Line 2 area":
I assume you guys meant fishing in the afternoon?
I mean I thought currently no street parking prior to 12:00 noon is allowed anywhere whatsoever in its entirety of Township of Oro-Medonte, right? (And I don't recall there is any paid parking lot anywhere near Oro Line 2, either:-)

I was in Carthew Bay saturday morning, walked out to the point, popped a whole and water came flooding up so walked back towards shore 200 meters and fished in 4-6". Didn't see a fish with my Aqua Vu.
Sunday, went to line 9 at lunch, ran into two guys who said they only marked three fish. I walked out almost a mile, 3-4" of ice, set up for 4 hours and again nothing on the Aqua Vu.
If getting skunked was something to brag about, I'd set off fireworks!! lol.

James, yes it was the afternoon when I was there.
There are 2 small "off-road" parking areas at line 2. I'm not sure if you need a resident permit to use them.

Thanks Ralph. Yes I know just next to launch at Ore Line 2 there is a small parking area on one side of the hill good for say 4 or 5 vehicles. I don't know either, if a local resident parking permit is needed to park in that area.

You do indeed need a permit for that area. It is resident parking only!

How about the slope by the boat launch? Are they prohibited for parking too? because i saw someone post up a RED sign by the stop sign that said parking is prohibited and I just looked up at the oro-medonte website and could not find anything about that slope is parking prohibited. Can anyone have any idea?
