Twenty yrs ago, Pike in the Kawarthas was unheard of, now the top end of the system (Balsam) is now considered a destination for a Pke Tournament.....WOW.

With locks at each end of the Trent waterway lakes, we might as well get used to the idea/fact that Pike will be throughout the system is a few short years, and YES, I believe they will hurt the Musky population as a result of their different spawning times.

Many, many years ago, I heard from a local, (could have been a rumor) that the ministry had installed an 'electrified grid' under the bridge Mitchell Lake to keep Pike out of the Kawarthas. It was supposedly installed to keep Pike that were already in the Severn side (Simcoe to Port Severn). of the Trent Waterway If true, it likely was not maintained due to budget cuts in the ministry.
All water under the so called bridge now.

It maybe be a little consolation to some that Pike are actually surprisingly a good eating fish.
Guess we should all just "suck it up buttercup" .... they are here to stay, unfortunately.

Cheers,

Right about the current block, was at the liftlock in Kirkfield, but was proven inaffective. Sturgeon L. is downstream from Cameron L. (which is full of Pike) and definitely Pike are in Sturgeon. Caught one or 2 this year in Emily r. under the bridge on rd 24 (popular spot on South side of Sturgeon). Probably all over the south end of Pigeon already, Pike have been in Balsam for 20 years now. Worked on the water in Rosedale for a decade or so and resident since '90.

MNR and Muskies Canada were investigating reports of Pike in Balsam Lake when I was working for MNR in Lindsay in 1987.

Great idea!!
Count me and a friend or 2 in. It will help and like on Crowe Lake there won't be any wasted fish.
Looking forward to it now!!

Just a bit ironic that I was channel surfing on TV yesterday and ran across an episode of FishTV and Leo and Jeff were pulling one pike after another pike from the big flat near Rosedale. That episode will probably replay at some point before the end of this weekend.
