Hello everyone, glad to be back on the hard water for another challenging year on lake Simcoe lol.

I started using the Heater buddy and its great, but the 1lb propane tanks are such a rip off!!

I see many of the ice fishermen/women on the ice have the 5/10/20 propane tanks beside their tent. I wondered how safe it is to store this tank in my car during the ice fishing season?

Do any of you do that currently?

I keep mine in the garage. I don't know about keeping it in a car. you have no where else to store it, even outside.

Was trying to figure out why you would ask this…. Then I started thinking about those who lives in condo buildings.

I did get lazy a couple of times and left the tank in the SUV with the rest of the gear for a day or two. But usually after a fishing trip where the tank has about 20% or less.

Propane is fine down to -42c.

I keep mine on my BBQ outside all winter and it fires up even on the coldest days. Propane is a pretty safe gas. I wouldn't worry.

Yup you got it!

I keep my sled in the back seat of my sedan

I kept my buddy heater with the 1lb in my car since dec. No issues there, but just wondering if its the same idea with a 5lb container.

Propane should never be stored in an enclosed area. I worked with a guy who had his head blown off from a propane explosion. The tanks were stored in a construction shack & one had been leaking. He was smoking when he opened the shack & boom.

Mine are all outside and the 5 pounder is in a shed where I keep my welding tanks....one of those heavy duty plastic well ventilated shed. The ones in the store are empty.....note the filled ones are kept outside in a cage.
