Greetings everyone. So with all the cold weather lately, you would think that the lake would be solid and no or very little slush. Man was I wrong...hit a back lake yesterday with some friends and about 200 feet of good snow/ice I hit the slush (every where).

The nice thing about the snowdog is just to unhook everything push down on the handle bars and it will climb out of the slush. So, with -20c temp, soaked boots we decided to drill some holes where we were and get on with it.

Had something playing with the bait but it would commit. My friend iced one splake. After 2 1/2 hrs with my toes swishing around the water in my boots, I called it a day.

Next time, I will have to pack some extra boots and socks.

Even a bad day on the ice is better than a good day in the office.

Tight lines everyone.

I just got a report from a buddy saying the same thing. Lots of slush. It's cold it should harden up soon... I hope!

Slush can be bad. We were fishing Friday morning in Muskoka it was -35 and we still hit several large patches of slush and it was in spots where no one had fished. Would have never thought

I learned all about slush last year!!! I was in trouble, soaked but kept going. Biggest battle ever getting back. I think anytime there is lots of snow, later season slush is prominent? Fun times. Someone recommended snow shoes when I told them the story.

My friend also mentioned snow shoes are a big help (obviously in keeping on top) but also your feet dry.

I too am amazed at how long the slush will withstand the bitter cold. I guess that powder snow is a very good insulator...

Seems to be froze now, there was little or no slush before the foot of snow we got weighed down the ice. had enough pressure to ooze for a week during frigid temps, no more slush until next big dump, or... like... thawing LOL.

Generally slush appears when the snow load on the ice is more than the ice can support. A hole or a crack in the ice lets water escape over the top of the ice into the snow cover. And yes most times it doesn't firm up quickly if even at all.
