Curing minnows, Leftovers

I agree with HOOKMEUP, using them as bait salted is no different then using a minnow alive as bait that was from the same bucket when they were alive. Now if you dump your salted minnows with 30m you would be breaking the rules.

So just to clear things up, I can use salted minnows aslong as theyre purchased in the same bmz?

Yes as bait. Not as chum.

Any minnows purchased outside you BMZ of residence are only allowed to be kept two weeks. So basically you couldn’t use salties outside your BMZ of residence unless you salted & used in first two weeks of purchase.

All this jibber jabber about the regulations but the original question was "would someone mind giving up their tested method for curing leftover minnows". So thanks for pointing out the obvious regarding bait transfer and dumping (was always illegal!!!) but back to the method. So can anyone share theirs? I for one am interested also

Second post had a good answer. More or less all the same method, Drain minnows in a sieve, put about 2 tablespoons of pickling salt in a zip lock bag, add minnows, shake, let it sit a while drain off any liquid, add a bit more salt and freeze.

Pickleing salt and borax

Pro cure makes a product called Brine N Bite that looks like it would work. We use the egg cure for skeins and loose eggs and it works real well. I've used their chicken liver cure as well and it also works good

best hands down is as follows.

put unused but alive minnows into windshield washer fluid for 20 minutes. drain them off in a sieve and then toss lightly in borax, bag and freeze em. they never go mushy, you can thaw and freeze them many times. they never really freeze solid either. they have to be alive going into the fluid though.
