IDK what the part is called but when you light the pilot and its lights but then goes out when you release (after holding it down for 30 seconds) it it’s because of a fault. I have this happen constantly and found a fix. At the bottom of the buddy heater inside there is a small part with two wires connected to it. Pull one lead off and put it back on. Works every time for some reason. I contacted Mr. Buddy about the issue when my unit was brand new and they never answered after repeated attempts. Their customer service sucks. The part leads to the thermo coupler if that helps.

I don't know if the little buddy is the same as the regular or big buddy, but I take a q-tip with rubbing alcohol and swab out the pilot light hole. It has helped me with mine in the past. Good luck.
