parking and walking, overnight camping

hi everyone. looking for advise please. want to come up thursday and stay on ice until sunday. Any areas you recommend for parking and where to walk out from?. Also if I'm walking how long is the walk to the fishing area you would think?... Thanks.

if you find a place to park for that long, make sure you leave some kind of note to say you are not in trouble. I have called 911 once when out for a walk. where I was walking was way out in country and was an access point to lake. I was walking about 8:30pm and there was one lone car still parked there. police checked the plate number and said it was ok, no issues, belonged to a house not far away and they decided to park where the fishermen park.

I would go to port bolster and park at Casey’s. Taj is truly awesome. If you’ve read any posts on here or other boards you will know why.

He has parking there, access to ice is just down the road 50m. If you tell him what you want to do camping wise, I’m sure he would set you up with anything you need and if you camp somewhat in vicinity of his huts you could arrange to use the toilet facilities he has out there.

You can call him anytime, he’s out abs back several times per day, he has a shuttle service for people not renting his huts, ($25.00) both ways, you can get minnows, and of course fishing in that area is generally good. It’s about a 2km walk to where he has his huts.

I’m sure most of the other hut operators on the lake would be good as well, so maybe try others too. I know ice Fishing Outfitters at the end of Hadden road is also very good (and nice people). Parking may be an issue in some areas but you could park on the ice there as it should be good to go now and super shallow at shore there.

The only thing I would be concerned about (I’ve done winter camping before and camped on the ice once 30 years ago) are snow machines zipping around etc at night, not expecting anyone out there....but I’m sure you’ve got that covered.
