I was planning on taking the family fishing tomorrow out near snake island, I was wondering if my 700 kodiak would be able to make it out with the snow and slush. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!

Hi Gards:

We were out on the ice Tuesday afternoon in the SW area of Snake Island on a 450 Yamaha quad - at which time we encounter entensive areas of deep snow drifts along with some bare ice patches. Needless-to-say, it was a good thing a brought a shovel cuz despite travelling light we got stuck a lot.

Fast forward a few days - I haven't been out on the lake since the recent snow storm but I suspect there is even more snow (including more snow drifts) on top of the ice in this area.

BTW - I heard from a reliable source earlier today that there is slush in the channel area between the mainland and Snake Island, however, I don't know how deep the slush is nor to what extent.

Given the fact your quad is larger and higher than what I was driving on Tuesday - you maybe Ok travelling on the ice in the Snake Island area, however, I would recommend the following - travel light, bring a shovel and try to stick to already travelled paths. Have a great day on the ice.

That's all for now, Nancy

Mentioning where your heading out from might get better responses.
