Google My Maps, Question

Has anyone used this before? I recently came across it and it seems like a handy mapping tool. Apparently you're able to search for maps that other people have made but I can't seem to figure out how, only been able to find them by accident. Let me know if you can help!

Somewhat unrelated to fishing but I'm using it to plan a Spring fishing trip, thought I'd share.

I think you have to share the link to the map, then that would be searchable? No database of maps as far as I know. Can they be used offline? I don't think so.
