Where are the lakers?!, Comon boys, post them laker pics

Just like the title asks... Where are those lakers? I've seen whitefish and enough perch to feed the poor.

Anyone fishing for them? Vlad? James?

haha. No laker for me yet. I am still waiting for Simcoe deep water laker ground to have ice ready. Perhaps after this coming weekend I hope.

I thought lakers came up into 30 feet of water in winter? If you're travelling out to deep water, please be safe James. Wear a float suit.

Thank you Sir. Yes I understand laker are also swimming in shallow Simcoe water. It's just that I don't have much knowledge on where they are when they are indeed in shallow water. Hence I am literally always fishing for laker on deep water, as we all know there are laker that deep:-) So again I will be safe, and wait until ice is ready.

I am with James. I haven't ventured out to the laker grounds yet. My buddy did catch one on Sunday beside me when fishing for whitefish.

Yep, and this darn snow will sure put a damper on firming up the ice for a bit.

I catch lots of whities shallow, but not as many lakers. Last year was the first winter in ages I didn't catch a lake trout shallow - during the open season. I did get one to the hole late ice while fishing for perch, but with light line, he was definitely in control. LOL

There's a laker to start the season. Let's see some more.

Most of them are in peoples freezers. The Lake Trout population on Simcoe is extremely low right now!!! The species is at risk. Don’t be surprised if you see a catch and release only announcement from the MNR within the next year or so. If you are targeting them, please consider releasing them if you want to maintain a sustainable population for the future.

I smoke those cats, they are every bit as good as salmon.

Be careful what you ask for. Lots of people now work from home and can actually move further North….. soon you will see millions North of Barrie as it is still somewhat affordable.

So true yet every year we have so many people killing giant lakers from Simcoe every season.
I really hope a catch and release is imposed or at the very least a slot size.

I release every laker I can. I agree, that for the random person who doesn't have experience fishing lake trout, it's literally impossible to return a laker back without killing it. It takes experience to get these boys back to the depths.

However, I disagree that the laker population is in trouble. Simcoe is polluted with lakers.
