First Overnighter, Hot tent

Heading out tomorrow to do an overnighter with friends...
Have Eskimo 650D with a Winnerwell wood stove.
No idea how much wood I'll need, both hut and stove are new. Bringing a propane heater just in case.

I'm pretty excited... will be fun regardless if I catch anything. Hoping to catch my first Burbot!!!

Rule of thumb with fire wood. When you think you have enough…. Double it. Lol

But you also have propane so I guess you should be okay.

I did the same with my clam and love it! I have a cheaper more larger stove for now, would love to upgrade to a winnerwell

Spent one of the coldest nights on the ice Friday Night.
May lessons learned,

A buddy flex is not going to keep a Eskimo 650D very warm at night. Big Buddy would've been better.

The hut is big enough for 2 cots, stove and a couple of small tables. Can easily fit 3 cots if you didn't have table.

Was on the ice for 30 hours, used about 3 Provincial park equivalent firewood.

Wherever I decide to setup is guaranteed to have no fish underneath had to move around with my flip over to find fish. My buddy ended catching 2 whitefish, I didn't even have a bite.


The Winnerwell stove (See picture) is great for warming up fried Chicken and making baked potatoes

Other than not catching fish, it was a great experience and will do it a few more times this winter expect will pitch tent on more productive grounds.

You'll need a second sled just for the firewood

Last trip that I used my woodstove, we brought along like 6 or 8 of the 6hour firelogs that you can buy instore, just to lighten our load of firewood. Only reason I havent brought the stove out to simcoe is due to lack of firewood, you cant just walk to shore and find any so youre forced to bring all of your own wood. I would consider bringing these logs if I were to do a hottent on simcoe forsure, if I had a machine wood wouldnnt be an issue but I dont. All of my gear is walked out. Which is why I only usually do it on northern lakes so far

Sounds fun regardless of the fish count. I've been doing a ton of research on this type of adventure. I've been wanting g tk set up at a back lake for specks, and camp in a hot tent. I've narrowed it down to the Russian Bear Tent U5.....looking forward to it. Thanks for the motivation I needed to get back on it:)

Glad everyone is enjoying themselves. Haven't been out much this year but would love to camp a night.

We have a Eskimo 9416i it’s the 7-9 man rectangular roughly 8’ by 14’.

I want to get a winnerwell stove for it, can anyone recommend what size stove would suit?
