Good day everyone. We had a good thread going last year for chemong lake updates on the ice. We've had a good week of ice building by the look of things.
Getting the itch but not interested in getting wet.

Cannot tell anything about Chemong but Sunday I was on a road trip and was coming back from Peterborough so I drove past Pigeon and Sturgeon.
There were areas of ice in bays and along the shoreline but mostly open water, so I think it's way too early to test the ice yet as we need solid subzero temperatures and no wind for at least a week.
I know everyone is itchy to get on the ice but please be patient and safe. It's coming ...

Has anyone tested the ice where the main Horseshoe island cluster is? Anyone seen walking out there yet?

Ha-ha, Lionel, I hear you! I would love to continue fishing on open water as well but have to wait a few months so I will be stuck with ice fishing for a while.

I'm headung back to Kissimmee in early May to thaw out before our bass season opens again. Also going to Algoma in late May to take advantage of the no closed season there.

Hope you guys get out soon. The earliest I have fished that area was Dec. 11 about 3 years back I think it was...and because bass was still in season, I was able to keep a couple for dinner. Then I decided to go back a few days later just before the season closed and caught a few more bass (so nice to have early enough ice to be able to keep some bass - they are much better tasting when it's cold). It's unlikely I will be fishing anytime soon this season (maybe if I am lucky towards the end of the season)...Xmas came early and a baby boy was delivered so lots sleep deprivation and far too many things to do never mind fishing. Good luck and stay safe.

Are the kid still playing hockey on 2 inches ice?
Lots of kids out skating near shore. Theres still open water both north and south of the causeway. Theres a pretty big section of open water south of the causeway, kind of right in the middle. Someone was actually walking pretty close to it.
