In a spot better known for one to two pounders, today was exceptional. Conditions were overcast with a high of 5 Celsius and a brisk southerly wind that tempered the warm temperatures.

We set up in our usual spot in 70 FOW and played cat and mouse for the better part of the morning -- that is until late morning when this 4 pound two ounce laker took my lure. Rod bending, line peeling off the spool, I iced this laker. Woohoo! The best, however, was yet to come!

From midday on, the marks became fewer and fewer. Finally, a little after 2 PM, I said to Knuguy, "I'm packing it in at 2:30." We hadn't marked anything for sometime and I wanted to get an early start for the three hour drive home. I packed up my sled with all but my last rod and sonar. Then, as I lifted the rod, I felt some weight, set the hook, and started reeling in. Again, the rod bent and line started peeling off the spool -- and kept peeling! Almost as fast as I could reel in, line screamed off my spool. Sometime later, my fluoro leader appeared and, then, finally, my PB laker. With some help from Knuguy, the fish was iced, some quick photos snapped, and then the fished released. Needless to say, my 2:30 departure was delayed! What a great end to the day.

that laker and the fight must have kept you well awake and alert for the entire drive home. Very nice esp. for a lake in which the lakers tend to be smaller.

My adrenaline was pumping waiting at the hole to, I hoped, lift the fish out. I can't imagine what MK's adrenaline was doing!! wow!! (and a 2 pounder is normally the best 1 for the day----on a good day!) I found it a bit stressful----it was either lift it out of the hole properly or find a new fishing bud.
