Nice people on the ice yesterday

I was out in the middle of the lake yesterday and about to call it a day around 5pm.

A few snow mobiles came by and asked how the conditions were and then they offered me a ride and hulled my sled back to shore.

That was my first snow mobile ride!

Whoever they were, I just want to say thank you very much. Appreciated the kindness and am very grateful to have experience!

It feels good knowing there are some really good folks out there. With the news being so negative it is easy to become jaded.
I believe there are many good people out there. Eg:...this forum .

I totallllly agree - offering a walker pulling a ton of fishing gear is a great gesture, however, I always worry about being stopped because the person isn't wearing a helmet.

Thanks, I was close to catching something, but it was a disaster of a day.

I walked out 2KM then realized i didnt bring my electric drill!

Luckily some one was at the spot i wanted to go and they were nice enough to let me sit in their flip up hut and it was very roomy and warm. Spent a day chatting with someone passionate as me fishing and we tried our best getting one hooked on. My new friend hooked on one and I video taped.

All in all, it was a terrific day out!

I too met some really good folks out there yesterday. I was fishing alone about 3 kms. out; mid morning when 3 snowmobiles and a side by side pulled up.

One guy approaches my hut and introduces himself. He asks me if I would have a problem with the 5 of them fishing within a stones throw from my hut. Seems I had landed close to their waypoint which had been producing whitefish in the past for them.

I say go for it (free lake anyway) as it would likely attract more fish to the area. Sure enough it did as we all went home with whities. So Dave and friends thanks for being considerate and being real sportsmen by knocking on my door.

That’s awesome. Same thing happened to me years ago up North during a year of brutal snow/slush. One of those days it was twice as easy getting out than coming back after things softened up. Guy picked me up and towed my gear to my truck. I bought my own sled a year later for $3100 and I’ve had almost ten years of use out of it with no regrets. It’s caught me lots of fish but I still walk out when conditions are easy going or better yet I skate late season after a good thaw/refreeze. I grew up snowmobiling but the costs of trail passes and repairs got me out of it, but if you strictly use it for ice fishing and can store it indoors it really lasts and is well worth it if you can pick one up late season you can get a good deal.

5 people with 3 snow mobiles, around 3-4KM out.

Good for them for catching some fish!
