Burbot, Catching Simcoe burbot

Beginning the season I had some goals. One of which, catching a burbot on Simcoe. Another, Lt at the cottage. Turns out I caught two burbot up there and fileted up for the mother's 70 the bday. Turns out neither of us had tried it before. We were both thoroughly impressed with the poor man's lobster. Just wondering if anyone's catchng them Willow Beach ( maybe closer to snake island) or JP areas?

I have no info on the lake Simcoe burbot. However I agree about it being great tablefare. I pan fry it with oil and I find that its the most mild fish I have had. I am also new to burbot I have caught 3 this ice season and they can be scrappy. I use a deadstick with a minnow close to bottom and the other rod is a rattle spoon and stinger hook. I tip both hooks with a small minnow tail hooking both. They make a bit commotion when tail hooked! However it seems not as effective with different species. Sometimes they bite short of the hook.

Thanks, I think it's all fluke. Like fishing. Just wondering if anyone new caught them out that way. I be caught one Whitefish this year

I lost one burbot at the hole last time out, my first trip with my new Aqua view, I watched it come in and look at my vibrato so I instinctively grabbed my rod with the meegs as I usually do to catch whitefish. Only problem was I grabbed the wrong rod because I had my camera set up in front of me looking back at me so everything was a mirror image, so I had grabbed the vibrato rod and dropped the lure to the bottom like I would to trigger a whitefish strike on the meegs. However to my surprise I watched the burbot smash the bottom to hit my vibrato and stir up a huge cloud of silt. Couldn’t see anything after that but I set the hook and it was on till I got nervous and backed off the drag and lost it at the hole. Definitely strong fighters I was ready for the line to break. The rest of my time was spent watching uninterested whitefish swim by. All this happed without a single mark on my helix 5 except for when I hooked the fish. Fishing in 29 feet though so I guess that’s a pretty narrow sonar cone and some pretty big rocks could have been hiding the fish from the sonar. Was just as much fun watching the fish as catching them though. Would have been a pretty slow day without the camera, very happy with it so far.
