Per the new MNR bait management regulation, and out of the 20 Fishing Zones, Fishing Zone 15 (including Muskoka area) alone is one of the four (4) new Bait Management Zones.
I will be together with whole family and a couple of young fellas, heading up north this coming Friday to a rented lake-front cottage in Muskuka (near the little town Baysville) for 3 nights over the Family Day long weekend.
I am getting super excited, and I think I shall fish for whitefish and laker for 4 days straight (Friday afternoon into evening, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday morning till noon, until I feel no more and sick of it:-).
I usually don't use minnows when fishing for whitefish/laker, but now that we will have a few who literally never fished, I thought I'd better get some minnow.
Hence the question:
Does anyone know of any bait shop selling minnows in Muskoka area, preferably along/near Hwy 11 north of Washago (where Zone 15 boundary is I think) and further north up to around Huntsville? Obviously I am looking for a bait shop within Fishing Zone 15.
Bigger towns not too far from where we are staying at the cottage would be Bracebridge and Huntsville, by the way, if this helps locating a bait shop nearby. that is.

Hi Guys
I am coming up the 400 from the Barrie area to fish lake Joseph. Would you have any recommendations along that route? Hopefully a place that is open early.

Wise choice on hwy 11 is closed for bait this winter. There is a bait store in gravenhurst that probably is your closest stop on the way. Make sure you ask for a receipt for minnows.

Where in gravenhurst? At the Jug City/ Jug Town/ City Jug?
Edit; I see gravenhurst bait and tackle! Why have I not seen that before!

Thank you, and I just called this "Gravenhurst Bait & Tackle", and confirmed I can get minnows, and I will on my way, take a little detour off Hwy 11, and stop by this store then.

Yup, Gravenhurst Bait and Tackle is your best bet now that Wise Choice is closed... and a very quick detour. And they open at 7am. Just FYI, last time I was there they only had "large" minnows (3-4" shiners) and no pinheads, though I'm assuming you're going for lakers and need the former.
